Affinity Caucuses

Affinity caucuses are gatherings of people based on any identity. They make it easier for dominant culture to be pointed out and addressed by providing a space to collectivize the individual experiences of marginalization and micro-aggression that are going to be inevitable in space like this.

The Coordinating Committee (CC) has gender and racial composition mandates, but since the CC is primarily an administrative rather than a leadership body, affinity caucuses for self-organization of racialized peoples and geographic minorities are just as, if not more, important than CC representation.

If you are interested in joining a caucus with which you identify, please join us on Slack in the corresponding channel so that the process of self-organizing can begin.

Several of our members are in the process of proposing and passing a bylaws amendment to give affinity caucuses a formal role in referenda, such as building in a threshold that half of each affinity caucus must approve a referendum, and/or stipulating that amendments and referenda have to first be passed by at least one caucus to be put on the ballot.
